Bosch Advances SDS-max® Lineup with Improved Demolition and Rotary Hammers

New hammers improve upon previous models with best-in-class performance

Mount Prospect, Ill., March 31, 2014 – Bosch continues to advance its innovative SDS-max® lineup with the introduction of the new DH712VC Demolition Hammer and 1-3/4-inch RH745 Rotary Hammer. Each new hammer has been upgraded to feature best in class performance in their respective classes due to increased impact energy measured according to European Power Tool Association (EPTA) measurement guidelines.

The hard hitting DH712VC and RH745 are the tools of choice for professionals who demand both efficiency and maximum power from their demolition and rotary hammers. In fact, The DH712VC delivers 9.6 ft. lbs. of impact energy (EPTA) at an unprecedented low weight of only 18.3 lbs.  The RH745 delivers 7.6 ft. lbs. of impact energy (EPTA) improving jobsite efficiency by drilling up to 10 percent faster than its predecessor model, the 11263EVS.

The DH712VC demolition hammer also comes equipped with vibration control through a longer air cushion in the hammer mechanism and an anti-vibration main and side handle. The combination of 3 levels of vibration control help take the stress off of users and offers unmatched ease of use during extended applications.

Both hammers feature the standard SDS-max® chuck and a variable speed dial for improved control during drilling and /or chiseling applications and the vario-lock function which allows the chisel to be rotated to 12 positions to optimize the working angle when hammer is used in chiseling mode. The DH712VC demolition hammer also features a unique trigger design with an auto lock-on switch to eliminate the need to continuously hold down the trigger.

The DH712VC and RH745 will be available in May 2014 at authorized dealers nationwide retailing for $729 and $719 respectively. To find out more or to locate a dealer, visit or call 877-BOSCH-99.

Bosch V-Groove Diamond Blades Tools of the Tradies
Bosch V-Groove Diamond Blades Rely on Optimized Diamond Formula for  Superior Performance
Blades deliver 2x speed of competitive products, use best technology available for concrete crack repair

Las Vegas, Nev., January 21, 2014 – Concrete crack and fissure repair requires both precision and speed to achieve like-new restoration results.  And that’s what Bosch V-Groove diamond blades offer: An optimized diamond formula that delivers 2x speed of competitors’ diamond blades for deep, clean grooves for strong, long-lasting concrete restoration.

The key to Bosch V-Groove technology is the optimized metal bond that offers product versatility to cut in hard, soft and normal concrete.  In addition, the superior diamond-metal bond means fewer blade changes and greater efficiency on the jobsite.

“V-Groove technology is a big step forward for the industry in the important work of concrete restoration,” said Matt Van, product manager, concrete accessories, Bosch.  “Bosch is the leader in diamond accessories for concrete applications.  We take that position seriously and it drives us to look for solutions that go beyond just meeting the need.  Our goal is development of superior solutions and V-Groove meets that standard.”

Savings on the Job

Stronger material bonding makes for a blade that lasts longer in tough applications, which saves money and time on the jobsite.  A 7/8″ bore hole fits standard angle grinders, both large and small, so V-Groove blades don’t require specialized equipment.  Typical users include concrete contractors, flooring contractors, masons, tuckpointers, painters working on surface preparation and dedicated concrete restoration professionals.

Chicago Electric 10 Amp 3-in-1 1-1/8 in. Variable Speed SDS Rotary Hammer

We’re reviewing this tool now, so expect more information and photos.

We’ve used this tool for several hours on a brick and block demo. This rotary hammer has just as much power as the brand name rotary hammers, but it is a beast to use. If you want an idea of how it feels to operate this rotary hammer, think of driving the Baja 1000 in a powerful truck, minus the suspension. With all that said, if you use a rotary for brief periods, then this is an incredible value (under $70 with a coupon).

Checkpoint G3 Torpedo Level

  • 4-vial system reads 90°, 45°, 30° plus oversized 0°
  • Oversized view ports for easy reading from all sides
  • 8-1/2″ billet 6061 T6 aluminum alloy body
  • Exclusive V-Groove System allows Ultra Mag G3 to straddle any pipe up to 10″

This is going to be a very simple review.

Basically, you order a torpedo level, and you get a work of art with some insane magnets.

At the end, I was a bit disappointed, not with the level, but with myself, for only having two hammers. I think it could have held a couple more hammers.

Bosch 18V Impact Driver (Bosch IDS181)

    • Most compact impactor design with a head length of 5.4-Inch, allowing the tool to be used in tight and hard to reach places with increased comfort
    • Optimized Impact Performance: Provides the best runtime and control for small to medium duty fastening jobs
    • Integrated 3-LED Ring: Provides shadow free illumination for the best visibility in low lighting applications
    • Superior Ergonomics: Slim, soft grip provides maximum comfort and control during fastening applications
    • Electronic Cell Protection (ECP) – Increases battery lifetime by preventing damage caused by misuse

To be a 100% honest, when Bosch introduced an impact driver with less power, and not more, I thought they had lost their marbles. However, after using it for a few minutes, I understand why.

Very few tradies drive large lag screws or concrete screws on a regular basis. If you do, you should be using an impact wrench. By dialing down the power, Bosch reduced the size, weight, and sound of the IDS181. The smaller size equals more access. The lighter weight permits more control. The reduced power equals less noise. To give you an idea of what the IDS181 sounds like, imagine using your impact driver with ear plugs (listen to this youtube video).

If your need is to drive 3 or 4 inch wood screws on a regular basis, then you’ll be rewarded with a tool that is competent, compact, and quiet.  The IDS181 also has a smaller grip, so it would be great for people that have smaller hands.
